FAQs

What is therapy?

In my opinion, therapy is an opportunity. It is a specifically cultured space that can offer safety, support, and objectivity to concerns humans have about life. Therapy can be focused on one specific concern or multiple concerns. Therapy is COLLABORATIVE. This means that both people show up, ready to work.

Who can provide therapy?

In the United States, the practice of therapy is governed by state boards. These boards grant licenses to individuals who have advanced degrees of study, practiced at 3,000 hours under supervision, then pass comprehensive exams before being given the ability to call themselves a licensed therapist. Providers can be Unlicensed Associates under supervision, Social Workers (LCSW), Marriage & Family Therapists (LMFT), Professional Clinical Counselors (LPCC), Psychologists (LP) and even Psychiatrists (MD).

Each license must be renewed every two years and providers have minimum standards around continuing educations (CE) to maintain their licensure standing to practice. As an example, MFTs must complete a minimum of 36 continuing education units per renewal period. For more information, visit: Board of Behavioral Sciences CE expectations

Do you have a social media presence? Can we “follow” each other?

Social media can be a useful tool for connecting with those who are far away and it can be a source of information. At this time, we are building our social presence on social media platforms. Please be aware that we will not search for our clients, add as a friend or follow client pages, comment on client posts or comments or story re-shares/etc. Engaging online would be a violation of your privacy and confidentiality. Should you elect to follow a public social media platform of our business, please be mindful of the limits and risks.
